The 2008 Democratic National Convention opened Monday night with a cavalcade of speakers both from and far away from the national spotlight, leading up to the headliner of the night… Attacus Dove? Unfortunately not, as Attacus Dove appears to have been bumped from his convention slot in favor of possible future first lady Michelle Obama. Michelle gave a speech highlighting her middle class values, her family, faith, sharing her roots, and also contained a shout-out to Hillary Clinton that brought the standing-room-only crowd to their feet. In this episode of the Hawke and Dove Political Punditry Program, however, Dove misses all the convention action while getting kicked-out for failing his background check when some low-level Obama staffer googled a “dove song” he wrote in grad school. Unfortunately for Dove and many in the media, this outrage does not result in a riot.

But if the goal is to energize their bases, win over moderates and independents, and close the deal with the American people, the candidates might want to think twice before they take either Hawke or Dove’s advice.
