HD019 - Abortion

Hawke and Dove prepare to square off over one of the most controversial topics of our time. Over the course of history, induced abortion has been the source of considerable debate, controversy, and activism, as well as the source of terrorist attacks. On one side, anti-abortion activists have been convicted of bombing abortion clinics, elevating the lives of the unborn as more important than the lives of the living. On the other side, pro-choice activists have funded charities that pay all the medical costs associated with abortions for low-income women, and gotten legislation passed that allows teenagers to obtain abortions without a parent’s consent. It is unarguable that the tension is high on both sides. Our intrepid pundits step into the gap, prepared to debate and hopefully find compromise that may prove to end this debate once and for all.

Topics covered include:

  • Debate Preparedness
  • Gastronomic Consequences
  • The Sanctity of Life
  • The Necessity of Choice
  • Green Room Supplies
  • Domino’s Pizza and Corporate Support of Pro-Life Activism
  • Bovine Abortion Alternatives
  • The Soup of Life
  • The Smoothie of Life

Myron Bunkerling is unavailable this week, leading our fearless commentators to engage in the kind of free-wheeling, wide-open debate that is the live call-in show. Unfortunately, they are prevented from their egalitarian mission by the antics of a single caller. This celebrity has made a name for herself by calling in to political outlets previously, and apparently is unsatisfied to let the limelight fade on her burgeoning career in political punditry.

Topics covered include:

  • The War in Iraq
  • The Iraq War
  • The legitimacy of Cher’s vows to Sonny Bono
  • Is Iraq on the brink of Civil War?
  • The State of the Facilities at Walter Reed
  • How to Bring Together Public Figures

This week Hawke and Dove discuss troubled United States Attorney General Alberto Gonzalez and the scandal(s) surrounding him, whether involving the memos written during his tenure as White House Counsel that ran circles around the Geneva Conventions in order to endorse possibly torturous methods in the War on Terror, or the politically-motivated firing of 8 United States Attorneys. In three appearances before the Senate Judiciary Committee, Mr. Gonzalez appeared to perjure himself. Having faced the scrutiny of publicly elected officials on both sides of the aisle, can he now stand the heat as Hawke and Dove bring it?

Topics covered include:

  • Attorney General Nicknames and Nomenclature
  • The hallmark of American filmmaking
  • The likelihood of impeachment
  • Scandalgate
  • Bush’s cronyism
  • Bush’s biggest mistake
  • The extended Bush family
  • President Bush under fire
  • Bush loyalty in the bush
  • Proper attire for Senators in Miami
