Some of you may have heard about a new film making the rounds of the art-house circuit. Purported to be an expose of the United States’ health-care system (or lack thereof), it is made by an unassuming filmmaker by the name of Michael Moore. The political nature of this film has made it difficult to see or hear anything about, but luckily, Hawke and Dove once again take a principled stand. Unlike other pundits and media personalities, Hawke and Dove choose to offer commentary on this obscure film.

In other news, the Hawke and Dove Political Punditry podcast was nominated for a 2007 podcast award in the “Political” category. Voting opened July 28 and runs for 15 days. Listeners can vote once per day in each category, so please visit podcastawards.com and vote early and often. Thank you.

This slow news week, we pick up where we left off a few weeks ago with the history of Hawke and Dove. In part one, we were schooled about our scholiast’s backgrounds, education, and upbringing. In this episode, we get a bit more personal, delving into the people who have influenced, political aspirations, recreational activities, and the romantic peculiarities of, our popular pedants.

Other notable people mentioned include:

  • Former Secretary of State Al Haig
  • John Denver
  • Former DNC Chairman Ron Brown
  • The late Senator Paul Wellstone
  • Bay Buchanan
  • Deaf Linda from Sesame Street

Special mention is made of über-pundit Arianna Huffington, and the role she played in both men’s lives. Perhaps there’s more to the story of how Arianna Huffington broke her foot. Let’s just say each of our pundits, at one time or another, had their grecian earned.

Last week, the Bush administration released the Interim Iraq Progress Report. At an almost insurmountable 25 pages, the report contains 18 precious assessments concerning the Iraqi government’s achievements with regards to the yardsticks of progress that the Bush Administration laid out in January when it announced a completely new strategy and a shift in US policy, lovingly referred to as the “surge.” Critics of the Bush Administration, including congressman Jack Murtha, have labeled the report effectively dead on arrival.

Our intrepid commentators, Hawke and Dove, are committed to wading through the morass and recriminations and getting to the real truth of the report. Listen to their cogent commentary and insightful idiosyncracies regarding the following topics:

  • Myron’s Return from Quilting Camp
  • Forming a Constitutional Review Committee
  • Satisfactory vs. Dissatisfactory
  • Alphabets
  • The Iraqi Oil Law
  • Semi-Autonomous Regions within Iraq
  • The Founding Fathers
  • Hawke Family Holiday Traditions
  • Amnesty International Irrational
  • Adequate Reparations
  • Elementary School Book Report Tactics
  • The Charge of the Light Brigades
  • Media Coverage of Iraqi Progress
  • The Iraq Government’s Lack of Support of the Iraqi Security Forces
